Self-Regulation and Continuous Learning

Working independently or within a group is something that requires a lot of each you. In order to be successful in college you must be able to set and meet goals to become a self-directed learner. What does that mean? If a professor says, "write an 800 word paper on Government due in one month?" How would you do it? What are some steps you might take to meet the professor's demand? (Leave a comment on the blog right now with a few steps you might take as a self-directed learner)

Self-Regulation is an important part of assessing your own progress on any given task. To self-regulate your own work, you have to set some basic goals, know when they have been met, and if they meet necessary standards. Part of of this process of self-regulation first requires you to think about your own style of learning. Answer the following questions on your blog in a new post:
  1. What is the best environment (home, school, work, etc.) for your learning?
  2. Where do you choose to study?
  3. Where do you choose to work creatively?
  4. How do you work with others?
  5. What is your favorite way of learning (listening, looking, doing, etc)?
  6. What do you think are your talents or strengths (arts, writing, speaking, problem solving)?
  7. Where do your personal interests lie?
  8. Do you check for accuracy and precision?
  9. Are you persistent in developing your work?
Self-regulation begins with your own internal reflection on how you learn and work best. Once you start to realize your strengths you can start to work towards those on your own. If you have finished your self-evaluation, take a moment to set three individual goals about for developing your project next week. Also set one group goal. Discuss this briefly with your group. Email me your goals, and I will give you feedback about your goals.

If I were to do reasearch on government I would probably narrow the subject to a specific type of governemt or just cover a wide variety of government related subjects but not going in depth.

I would set up different times in which i will research.I also might try to think of a place in which I could get work done for the project.Make a time sheet of deadline that i need to complete certain parts.

The steps i would need to take to form this paper would be doing research, forming a main point, and making an outline of the structure I want the paper to be in.

I would have to do my research on government and then gather the informantion I get to form my paper.

first off I would question the professors' ability to give detailed orders. Then I would begin brainstorming a specific focus of the government. What are the pros/cons and figure out what is the general problem that needs to be addressed.

When beginning my essay on Government I would make sure to choose a specific section of government to focus on and then I would set up a schedule for research, etc. I would begin by taking in consideration the actual time that I have...One month is equivalent to three weeks; so I would break up my assignment into parts. I would allow myself to do research in free time and make it a personal obligation to write at least 300 words a week. Working with this schedule, I feel that I would be able to finish my work in a timely fashion and also make the most of my research time.

If I had to do a 800 word page on government I would have to find a place to do my work, learn about government via internet, books, magazines, etc. I would also break up the project into sections and have deadlines for everything.

I would found a part of government that seemed important. Do research on my topic and then stress the important of that part of government in my paper.

To do an 800 word essay I would have many important things that could be used such as research and feedback from my peers about how they feel about the government i would use drafts and ideas from others to write the essay up.

If I had to write a research paper that requried 800 words on the goverment that was due in a month I would brainstorm ideas about the goverment to help me gather ideas of what stlye I would like my paper to be. My next step would be to create a thesis statment from the information that I brainstormed. Once I have created my thesis statement I would know exactly what type of essay my paper would be.

I will probably work in a quiet area will I feel I can get the most work done and take a certain amount of hours in my day to work on it. Each day a good portion of the work will be completed.

Well 2 start off my project for government...i would pick a certain topic and brainstorm a few ideas, research information to back my paper off and maybe start off with diferent thesis to get a controlling idea to begin everything off.

I will start my project by picking a topic that I think that the enviorment need to address and then I will start gathering information from diffferent types of sources which then I can starting putting what I found together and whenI think that I am ready I will give it to somebody toproof read it and tell me if I have any mistakes or errors then I will take it back and fix it. So how I would do that is by making a chart that will have a date with something that should be done next to it with a box next to it where I can check it at.That is what I will do to set up my research paper.
